Payment methods
What you can pay with, when you are charged, and who sees your payment details.

1. What you can pay with
Payment is handled by Stripe. At checkout you can use:
- Credit and debit cards
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
Which of these you are shown depends on your device and browser: Apple Pay appears on Apple devices in Safari when a card is set up in the Wallet, and Google Pay in Chrome with a saved card. The list the checkout actually shows you is always the current one.
2. When you are charged

There is no separate authorisation held and charged later: you are charged exactly once, when you submit the order.
3. Security
Your full card details never reach us. You enter them directly with Stripe, and we receive the confirmation that payment was made along with a transaction reference. With Apple Pay and Google Pay no real card number is transmitted at all - only a device-bound token.
Cards issued in the European Economic Area are subject to strong customer authentication, so your bank may ask you to confirm the payment separately, typically in its app. What we do with the data around a payment is set out in the data policy.
4. Refunds
Refunds go back to the payment method you paid with. We cannot send one to a different account - that is set by the payment route rather than by us. How long it takes, and when you are entitled to withdraw, is in the refund and withdrawal policy.
5. Questions about a payment
If a payment fails, or you see a charge you cannot place, get in touch through the contact page. Quote the order number if you already have one.
